EAA Air Museum, Florida Keys

There are plenty of ways to keep busy in Marathon while waiting on a weather window to sail to the Bahamas.  If you are enthralled by aviation history and flying, and want a chance to actually climb aboard some old planes, the EAA Air Museum is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.  And probably the most affordable thing to do in the Florida Keys. Admission is free.  The museum is funded by the Experimental Aircraft Association and donations from visitors. It has one hangar and adjoining outdoor space. Inside the hangar, you can check out a Beechcraft Model 18 twin-engine workhorse that carried officers during World War II.

Cessna 172, Army T-41.

Outside we climbed aboard a 1942-era military DC3, whose last mission was flying commercial for Ozark Airlines.

After the war it became a private plane carrying passengers for H.H. Coffield.  Then became a commercial plane for Ozark Airlines.  Grace Kelly rode this plane on a flight to Huston, her seat is proudly marked.

Marathon Airport is home to EAA Chapter 1241. They meet on the second Saturday of every month.
